Kirklees Council Disabled Children’s Strategy Group

Kirklees Council have asked TSL Kirklees to help to find an additional voluntary sector representative for this group.

The Group has Terms of Reference (Disabled Children Strategy Group ToR) which set out its role / remit / membership etc. The Disabled Children’s Strategy is at an advanced draft stage, due to go to Children’s Trust in the next couple of meetings.

PCAN – parents of Children with Additional Needs – have been involved with the development of the strategy and associated programme throughout. Carol Thomas from PCAN (Parents of Children with Additional Needs) is already on the group, so the new representative would not be alone. PCAN have a focus on representing the viewpoint of the families of disabled children. We would like an additional VCS representative – preferably someone who has an experience and / or insight and interest in services for disabled children & their families, certainly someone who is interested in addressing and assessing issues from the perspective of the third sector. The time commitment would be a meeting a month, plus any follow up, although the frequency of the meetings is likely to drop back to one a quarter as the programme becomes established. As part of the role, the representative will get to influence and shape policy and service delivery, have access to senior managers in the health, learning and social care fields and, of course, our support and gratitude
